Event Insights
I had the pleasure of attending the TUFLOW 2025 UK/Europe User Conference at the MShed in Bristol, England, this year. The UK TUFLOW User Conference continues to be a key event for modellers and flood risk professionals, providing a space for exchanging ideas and pioneering new approaches to modelling and flood risk challenges.
This year’s conference featured a mix of sessions, from in-depth explorations of new features, really looking forward to the new Python and QGIS tools, to thought-provoking discussions on the real-world impacts of flooding. I was thrilled to contribute by delivering a session on Jacobs’ latest advancements in flood modelling and the exciting developments for Flood Platform.
After the event, the Jacobs and BMT development teams came together to share our future product roadmaps and discuss opportunities to strengthen ongoing integration, reinforcing our shared commitment to driving innovation forward.

“It was fantastic to reunite with over 100 flood professionals from across the industry to share ideas and experiences. I always enjoy reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new people, gaining fresh perspectives on tackling industry challenges.”
Key Takeaways
It’s all too easy to become immersed in model land and lose sight of the human impact of flooding. Mary Long-Dhonau and Anusha Shah’s presentations brought the focus back to the effects of our work and the devastating consequences of flooding.
Managing model data remains a significant industry challenge, often hindering efficiency and slowing progress.
While flood risk is the primary driver of modelling efforts, there continues to be excellent use of modelling tools in other areas, including water quality, biodiversity net gain and water resource planning.
Addressing Industry Challenges
The challenges facing our industry will continue to grow, driven by increased government investment in infrastructure, the escalating impacts of climate change and the growing emphasis on environmental recovery and enhancement.
As professionals, we are constantly developing innovative solutions to tackle the issues affecting clients and communities alike. With advancing tools, improved workflows, particularly in data management, and continued collaboration across disciplines and organisations, I am confident that we will rise to the challenge.
